Where Should You Begin??: 4 Easy Steps to Detoxify Your Life

Healthy living and detoxification is a scary topic. Especially when you first get started.

Take a look at that tub of anti-bacterial wipes on your counter. What’s in them? Do you know what I found out? It doesn’t say. That’s right. The FDA does not regulate household cleaners. So they do not have to disclose what is inside them. I’ll tell you what’s inside some of them – bad stuff. I’ve made you a short list of some of the offenders:

  1. Phthaletes РThese guys are endocrine disrupters. Endocrine disrupters affect the hormones in your body. They can cause cancerous tumors, birth defects, infertility, low IQ, obesity, diabetes, and endometriosis. They can interfere with brain development of babies and children. They may cause allergies and preterm labor. They also may disrupt insulin function. Phthaletes can be found in plastics, shampoos, perfume, soaps, hair spray, nail polish.
  2. Triclosan – This lovely chemical can contribute to food allergies and sensitivities. It was mandated to be removed from hand sanitizers, but can still be found in some toothpastes and mouthwashes. Right. You shouldn’t put it on your hands, but you can eat it. That sounds great.
  3. Organophosphate Pesticide – Neurotoxins that were originally made for use in chemical warfare and now account for about 1/2 of all pesticides used in the United States. (CNN article)
  4. 2-Butoxyethanol – A bone toxin that may cause discoordination in otherwise healthy adults and children.

If you look into information from a variety of news stations and/or the Environmental Working Group, you can read more about it. But I will give you a very short checklist of what steps you can take in your own life!

Steps to Start Detoxifying Your Life

Here’s what you need to do:

Step 1: Detox your household cleaners. There are many options – DIY cleaners, straight up vinegar or hydrogen peroxide, or I use Thieves Cleaner. I use it on EVERYTHING in my house. Kitchen, bathroom, glass, carpets, furniture. It’s a concentrated bottle, so you use approximately 1 TBSP to 2 cups of water in a spray bottle and go to town. Order it today. You will thank me!! Step 2: Detox your skin care products. Anything you put on your body goes IN your body. Start with things that stay on your body for a long time – lotions, sprays, face creams. Then move on to other body care products – soap, shampoo, toothpaste. Start on the Skin Deep data base to check out the things you have right now. Decide if you really want that on your skin all day.
